DAILY LOOK BOX 6

So most of y'all know I've been receiving my DailyLook boxes for a while now. I changed stylists this time just to change it up a little. This box was probably one of my favorites. I'll post some photos below so y'all can see what all came in it. I ended up keeping this leather jacket because I fell in love!

SKINCARE ROUTINE FAVES

I've been collaborating with Face to Face spa for a few months now and I can't even begin to tell y'all how much of a difference I  already see in my skin. Even before I went to Face to Face spa, I've always treated myself to a facial once/month. I'm so glad I started going to Face to Face spa vs the other places I went to in the past, because I truly see the most difference in my skin from going here. I've also jumped out of my comfort zone and tried different services such as dermaplaning, skin pen, microdermabrasion and I think this has also played a major part in my skin difference. The estheticians are also so awesome and always recommend skincare products specific to my skincare needs. I wanted to chat with y'all about some of my favorites I've received. It's funny because I was putting this post together and realized that most of the products I use on a daily basis are skinceutical products from Face to Face spa. Just so you know, I use these products regularly and have been doing so for the last few months (all except the B5 mask--I just got this one a week ago). These are also products I plan to stick with after they run out because I truly love them all!

1.) Soothing cleanser: This cleanser is a calming cleanser, and is also perfect if to you if you've had any procedure done such as a chemical peel, skin pen, microderm, etc. I love how it dispenses into a foam and also how it's suitable for my sensitive skin. I usually alternate between 2 or 3 cleansers, and this is one of them.

2.) Hydrating B5 gel: I will start out by saying this product is expensive, but it's a serious game changer. I have REALLY DRY skin, and this gel is a miracle worker. I use this everyday! In fact, I'm almost out and I'm about to buy some more of these magic drops ahha! I put a few drops of this on in the morning after the vitamin C serum, and then my moisturizer. I also use it at night time after cleansing and under my moisturizer.

3.) C E Ferulic: This is a vitamin C serum that I use every other day under my hydrating B5 gel. This is another pricey item, but I also feel like this is worth the splurge. If I had to pick 2 items I would splurge on skincare wise, it would be this one and the vitamin B5 gel. I feel like this serum has really helped with my discolorations and also with brightening my skin.

4.) Hydrating B5 mask: I actually just tried this for the first time a few days ago. I love love love trying out facial masks, and this one is perfect because it's super hydrating. Also, you just spread a layer on your face, let it penetrate into your skin, and then massage the rest of the product into your skin.

5.) Retinol 0.5: I use this for wrinkles, discoloration, etc. I only use this once/week at bedtime under my moisturizer.

NATURAL BEADED ROW EXTENSIONS

Hey y'all! Today I wanted to chat with y'all about my Natural Beaded Row extensions (NBR extensions). I've had these extensions in since June and I am in LOVE! I live in Austin and I go to Tiffany at Bowie Street Collective. She is seriously so awesome y'all-- I could go on and on about her amazingness! Not only is she awesome at doing hair, but she's one of those people where you go into her salon and you instantly connect with her and conversation is so easy! I was telling her the other day it's so hard to find a hair person you want to go back to haha, but she makes it super easy! Anyways, I know I posted pictures on my instagram story the other day and some of y'all had some questions so I figured I would answer them here.

*DISCLAIMER: I received this service by Tiffany at Bowie Street Collective here in Austin, TX in exchange for my honest opinion and review of NBR extensions. All thoughts and opinions are my own. For questions regarding the application, process, and details of natural beaded row extensions, you should talk to an NBR expert, as I am not an expert in this area*

1.) What are NBR extensions? NBR extensions are sewn in extensions. Picture this: 1-2 sections of hair, a tiny bead then clamped onto small pieces of your own hair from each section, wefts placed on top, and then sewn in.

2.) How much fake hair do I have?  In June, I started out with 2 rows. This was actually way too much hair for me, so the next time I went, I went down to 1 row. It was so much easier to maintain because it was basically half the hair and still looked amazing. I just went to get it redone, and Tiffany did 1.5 rows and I think I will stick with this amount because it's fuller than just 1 row, but not as much to maintain as 2 rows.

3.) How many rows do you need? It just depends on the person. Contact a consultation with Tiffany and she will tell you what she thinks is appropriate based on your hair type and what you want.

4.) How much hair do I have on each row? I have 5 pieces of hair on each row. I have 1 row, and then another half row which is considered a mini row.

5.) How often is the maintenance? Personally, I get mine tightened every 8-9 weeks, but it just depends on how fast your hair grows. I would say mine is on the slower side, so I wait a little bit longer. It is recommended you replace the hair every 6 months. Mine from June was actually still in good condition, so I probably could have gone another 8 weeks and it would have been fine. Also, when I went down to 1 row, I still had a lot of extra hair left over to use.

6.) What is the price? So initially, I invested $1500. This was for all of the hair, 2 rows, and color of the extensions. Honestly, it was definitely worth the investment. I can't imagine not having this hair now. Tightening costs anywhere in the $100s to $200s depending on the amount of rows you have. Also, it will be extra to color the hair. Contact Tiffany for specifics with pricing.

7.) What are the pros/cons?

  • Pros- I could go on and on about this amazing hair. It blends so easily with your natural hair that no one even knows I have extensions in. You can also change the color of the hair without changing your own hair color. For example, I had Tiffany do the ends of the NBR hair ombre and blend it in with my natural hair without coloring my own hair. I loved it!
  • Cons: Yes, it's a bit pricey, but I feel like people tell me they spend just as much on other extension types (maybe not as much as an initial investment, but maintenance of other extension methods, etc) and no offense, but I think the NBR extensions blend in the most naturally compared to tape ins, fused extensions, etc. The only other con I can think of is when I first got them in, my head hurt for a few days. I expected this though, especially because 2 rows of new hair was added to my crazy thin hair. This will be my 3rd tightening, and now it only feels a little strange the first night I sleep on it.

Let me know if y'all have any other questions:)

Now onto the fun part, before and after pictures:

My natural hair (front & back)

Hair application: (Don't hate me, but we got so carried away chatting that I forgot to take a photo of the beads attached to the pieces of hair that occured prior to attaching the weft) :(

Now the wefts are attached and ready to be sewn in. Here are some pictures of the finished hair (1.5 rows) completed by Tiffany.

Here are pictures of when I had 2 rows:

SKIN PEN FACE TO FACE SPA

Hey y'all,
I did a post last month on my first skin pen experience at Face to Face Spa. You can read about it here. I wrote about the results ~ 2 weeks after I received the treatment. I went for my second skin pen 11 days ago. I can definitely see a difference in my pore size and lighter discolorations around my nose then when I first started. I get my last one in a few weeks and I can't wait. If you have a Face to Face spa nearby, you should definitely check them out:)

Y'all- my favorite Dailylook box just came in the other week! I received a variety of different tops which were all adorable. I ended up keeping the vest and then a black cold shoulder lace up top--both were perfect for Fall. I would definitely recommend trying out DailyLook. Although I love styling outfits myself, its fun to be surprised and try out something new every once and a while. Let me know y'alls thoughts :)

THERAPISTS GUIDE TO DEMENTIA

Today I wanted to chat with y'all about Dementia. As an Occupational Therapist in a skilled nursing facility setting, this is a diagnosis I see all of the time. I decided to do a blog post about it because it is something I truly am passionate about and I would love to spread knowledge as best as I can. To start, you can read my last blog post here about Lanny Butler's book & the 7 stages of dementia. It is one of my personal favorites and I recommend this book to every family member that is caring for someone with dementia. There's also a questionnaire at the end of the book that I like to either give patients and/or caregivers to better understand someones habits and routines. I always get questions from different therapists about my recommendations for assessments, goal writing, activities, etc. I decided to break it down as best as I could. The first thing that I do when I see a dementia diagnosis is interview the patient (if they are able to recall facts about their past) or interview a family member if they are unable to tell me facts about their past. I find out specific things about their past (jobs, leisure interests, routines) so I can either modify activities to increase their engagement or use this information to help the caregiver care for the patient.

Assessments I love: MOCA, SLUMS, GDS, Trail Making Test, ACL, Clock drawing test, Personal Interest Inventory, Spaced Retrieval, PAINAD scale. Obviously, I use my best judgment on what assessment I want to administer. For example, I wouldn't use the MOCA on someone with severe dementia.

Goal writing Therapists: I'm going to just list a bunch of goals that I find helpful and you can be the judge when they might be appropriate based on their abilities, pt/caregiver goals. Most of these goals were given to me by my mentor in NC named Marissa (she's my OT role model-amazing!)
1. Pt will increase short term recall to refer to external memory aides with __% accuracy with __ assist for completion of ADL task.
2. Pt will demonstrate recall of safety precautions with __% accuracy with __ assist to perform ADLs safely.
3. Pt will demonstrate recall to use a checklist with __% accuracy with __ assist to complete ADL self care task of ___.
4. Pt will independently scan environment to locate needed supplies with __% verbal cues.
5. Pt/caregiver will complete personal interest inventory to identify and increase leisure IADL engagement.
6. Pt will increase attention to task up to __minutes with ___ amount of cueing to increase leisure IADL engagement.
7. Pt will allow caregiver to perform AAROM/PROM 2 x 10 ea __UE for increasing joint flexibility and comfort for ADL completion.
8. Pt will perform trunk flexion ther act ___x with __assistance and __verbal and/or tactile cueing for increasing trunk flexion for ADL performance.
9. Pt will engage in rhythmic movements to chair dance, march in place for gross motor stimulation with maximum assistance to initiate and sustain attention for 5 minute intervals.
10. Pt will self feed finger foods and drink from a cup with __ assistance when placed in hand given maximum tactile and verbal cues.

Activities for each stage: I decided to break down some activities you can try related to each stage. These are just some ideas of things you can do. Make sure to take into consideration the patient's interests, dislikes, etc.
GDS stage 4 activities can include but are not limited to: crafts, bingo, puzzles, cooking activities, games
GDS stage 5 activities can include but are not limited to: folding clothes, setting the table, stuffing envelopes, sorting activities, bingo, coloring, stringing beads (verbal cueing and assistance as needed)
GDS stage 6 activities can include but are not limited to: gross motor games such as balloon volleyball, bean bag toss, simple coloring, stirring, dusting tables, photo albums, swaying to music, parachute activity
GDS stage 7 activities can include but are not limited to: tactile stimulation, head and postural control, kneed bread dough (you can always use putty)

As always, let me know if y'all have any questions for me and if you enjoyed this post:)

PS..these Jaanuu scrubs (c/o) are some of my favorites. I always get so many compliments wearing this brand, especially their floral embroidered ones. Plus these scrubs are 35% off sidewide for Black Friday sale! The joggers are my favorite scrubs bottoms that I own. For size reference, I ordered a petite small. I also have a regular xsmall. They do shrink a tad, so I decided to go with the petite small this time.

DAILYLOOK BOX 4

I received my 4th Daily Look box the other day. Honestly, this wasn't my favorite box I've received. I was hoping to love this dress at the top, but the fit was too big at the bottom. I did love the gray top and the gingham dress, which are the items I chose to keep. Some of the other items I received were too big (the duster and the plain black dress). I loved the color of the blazer, but hated the material and the way it looked with a short and/or long sleeved shirt placed underneath. I might change up my stylist for next month to see what items they will choose. I posted pictures below of the items that came in my box. Let me know what y'all think :)

SKIN PEN WITH FACE TO FACE SPA

I love the services I've been receiving so far at Face to Face spa, so I decided to try Skin Pen for this months session. If your new to skin pen and wondering what it involves or what it does, I will try my best to explain below.

1.) What is Skin Pen? Skin Pen is a minimally invasive procedure involving a disposable needle that is used on the skin to help improve the overall appearance of the skin. It creates microchannels that help to stimulate the skins natural production of collagen and elastin.
2.) How often should you get these treatments? Check with our esthetician because recommendations will be different depending on what your esthetician recommends for your skin type. My esthetician recommended that I return every 4 weeks for 3 sessions total, and then once/year for maintenance.
3.) Do I notice any results so far? My procedure was exactly 12 days ago, and honestly, I don't notice much of a difference in my skin. There are different intensities on the skin pen, and since I was a little nervous, I told her I wanted the lowest setting. After we were finished, she said my skin could have definitely tolerated a higher setting, but since I've never done something like this before, I wanted to air on the cautious side. I will be back in 4 weeks to schedule my second session.
4.) What should I expect after? For me, it looked like I had a mild sunburn. My face slightly peeled for about 5 days. My esthetician suggested I don't wash my face for 24 hour after, and also no makeup for 2 days. She also suggested that I use a facewash that was safe for post procedure use (skinceuticals foaming facewash). There were 2 skinfuse products that I received which were a calming complex, and Lift HG. I've posted pictures below of the products I've been using.
